1. Introduzione

The FIRST ALERT BRK Model CO250 is a single-station carbon monoxide (CO) alarm designed to provide early warning of the presence of carbon monoxide gas. This battery-operated detector is suitable for residential and institutional applications, including sleeping rooms in hospitals, hotels, motels, dormitories, and other multi-family dwellings. It features an electrochemical CO sensor, an 85dB horn, a full-function test switch, and a red LED indicator for power and alarm status.

Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless, and tasteless gas that can be deadly. Sources of CO can include:

  • Furnaces and water heaters

Carefully remove the carbon monoxide alarm from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage. Ensure all included components, such as mounting anchors and screws, are present.

The CO250B model includes a 9V alkaline battery. To install or replace the battery:

  1. Open the hinged cover of the alarm. This can be done even when the unit is mounted.
  2. Connect the 9V battery to the battery connector.
  3. Place the battery into its compartment. The cover is designed to resist closing if the battery is missing, ensuring proper installation.
  4. Close the hinged cover until it clicks securely.

For optimal protection, install carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home and in every bedroom. Carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and mixes with warm air, so it's best to install the alarm on a wall or ceiling.

  • Montaggio a parete: Place the alarm at least 6 inches (15 cm) from the ceiling and at least 6 inches (15 cm) from any adjacent walls.
  • Montaggio a soffitto: Place the alarm at least 4 inches (10 cm) from any wall.
  • Avoid placing the alarm near windows, doors, or vents where drafts could interfere with its operation.
  • Do not install in areas with extreme temperatures (below 40°F or above 100°F).

2.4 Montaggio dell'allarme

The CO250 alarm is designed for wall or ceiling mounting and includes necessary anchors and screws.

  1. Mark the desired mounting location on the wall or ceiling.
  2. Drill two pilot holes at the marked locations.
  3. Insert the plastic anchors into the pilot holes.
  4. Align the alarm's mounting slots with the anchors and secure it with the provided screws. Ensure the screws are not overtightened, allowing the alarm to slide into place.
  5. Once mounted, the tamper-resistant locking pin can be engaged to prevent unauthorized battery removal.

2.5 Test iniziale

After installation, press and hold the 'TEST/SILENCE' button on the front of the alarm until the alarm sounds. This confirms the unit is functioning correctly.

During normal operation, the red LED light will flash periodically to indicate the unit is powered and monitoring for carbon monoxide.

3.4 What to Do in Case of an Alarm

4. Manutenzione

4.1 Test regolari

Test your carbon monoxide alarm regularly, at least once a week, by pressing the 'TEST/SILENCE' button. This ensures the electronic circuitry, alarm, and battery are working.

Replace the 9V battery when the alarm emits a low battery chirp (one chirp per minute). It is recommended to replace batteries every six months, even if the low battery chirp has not sounded, to ensure continuous protection.
