1. Introduzione

The Nady SCM-700 is a professional large-diaphragm studio condenser microphone designed for a variety of recording applications, including podcasting, voice-overs, online videos, and high-quality audio production with smartphones, tablets, and traditional audio interfaces. This versatile microphone features a cardioid polar pattern, a 16mm capsule, and a frequency response of 20Hz-20kHz, making it suitable for capturing clear and detailed sound.

The SCM-700 incorporates a large-diaphragm condenser element, transformerless low-noise circuitry, and high SPL capacity. Its rugged internal shock mounts and FET output electronics work to minimize noise, ensuring a focused and realistic audio reproduction. The microphone accepts phantom power from 5V to 48V, allowing for flexible use in various recording environments.

2. Contenuto della confezione

The SCM-700 recording kit includes the following components:

  • XLR to 1/8" TRS/TRRS cable (for smartphones, tablets, or computers)

3. Impostazione

3.1 Montaggio del microfono

  1. Carefully remove the SCM-700 microphone from its packaging.
  2. Attach the microphone shock mount to the included desktop tripod stand. Ensure it is securely tightened.
  3. Gently insert the SCM-700 microphone into the shock mount. The shock mount helps to isolate the microphone from vibrations and handling noise.
  4. Place the foam windscreen over the microphone capsule. This reduces plosive sounds (like 'p' and 'b') and protects the capsule from dust.

3.2 Connessione a un dispositivo

The SCM-700 requires phantom power to operate. Ensure your connecting device can supply 5V-48V phantom power.

3.2.1 Connecting to a Smartphone/Tablet/Computer

  1. Connect the XLR end of the XLR to 1/8" TRS/TRRS cable to the microphone's XLR output.
  2. If using a smartphone or tablet, connect the 1/8" TRRS adaptor to the device's headphone/microphone jack. Then, plug the 1/8" TRS/TRRS cable into the microphone input of the adaptor.
  3. If connecting directly to a computer with a combined headphone/microphone jack, plug the 1/8" TRS/TRRS cable directly into the jack. For separate input/output jacks, use the appropriate adaptor if needed.
  4. Ensure your device's settings recognize the external microphone.

3.2.2 Connecting to an Audio Interface or Mixer

  1. Connect one end of the heavy-duty XLR to XLR cable to the microphone's XLR output.

  3. Activate the 48V phantom power on your audio interface or mixer for the input channel connected to the SCM-700. The microphone will not function without phantom power.

4. Utilizzo del microfono

4.1 Posizionamento del microfono

The SCM-700 features a cardioid polar pattern, meaning it is most sensitive to sounds coming from the front and rejects sounds from the sides and rear. For optimal sound quality:

  • Position the front of the microphone (where the Nady logo is visible) directly towards the sound source.
  • Experiment with distance from the sound source. Closer proximity generally results in a fuller sound (proximity effect), while further distances capture more room ambiance.
  • Utilize the windscreen to minimize plosives when recording vocals or speech.

4.2 Recording Levels

Before recording, set appropriate input levels on your recording device or mixer. Aim for levels that are strong enough to be clear but do not peak or clip, which can cause distortion. A good starting point is to have your loudest signals peak around -6dB to -3dB on your meter.

4.3 Monitoraggio

If using the 1/8" TRRS adaptor, you can connect headphones to its output to monitor your audio in real-time. This is crucial for ensuring proper levels and sound quality during recording.

5. Manutenzione

  • Pulizia: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the microphone body. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents, as they can damage the microphone's finish or internal components.
