Attaching Filters and Cartridges

The 3M 6800 Full Facepiece Reusable Respirator is designed for use with a variety of 3M filters and cartridges. Ensure you select the correct filters or cartridges for the specific hazards present in your work environment. Refer to the 3M selection guide or consult a safety professional for proper selection.

1. Align the filter or cartridge with the bayonet attachment on the side of the facepiece.
2. Push the filter/cartridge onto the bayonet fitting and twist clockwise until it clicks into place.
3. Repeat for the other side. Ensure both filters/cartridges are securely attached.

Combine with 3M™ particulate filters or cartridges to help provide respiratory protection against particulates (e.g., dust, fumes, mold) and gases and vapors (e.g., acid, ammonia, formaldehyde).

Donning the Respirator

1. Hold the respirator with one hand, grasping the bottom straps.
2. Place your chin into the chin cup and pull the head harness over your head.
3. Position the facepiece comfortably on your face.
4. Pull the bottom straps back and fasten them behind your neck.
5. Adjust the top straps by pulling them evenly until the facepiece is snug but comfortable. Do not overtighten.
6. Adjust the bottom straps for a secure fit.

Performing a User Seal Check

A user seal check must be performed each time the respirator is donned to ensure a proper seal.

Doffing the Respirator

1. Loosen the bottom straps first, then the top straps.
2. Remove the respirator by lifting it up and away from your face.

Clean the respirator after each use. Disassemble the facepiece by removing filters/cartridges and any other removable components.

1. Wash the facepiece and removable parts in warm water (not exceeding 120°F / 49°C) with a mild detergent or a 3M respirator cleaning wipe.
2. Use a soft brush to remove any dirt.
3. Rinse thoroughly in clean, warm water.
4. Disinfect by soaking in a solution of one ounce of household bleach per gallon of water, or use a suitable disinfectant solution.
5. Rinse again in clean, warm water and allow to air dry in a clean, non-contaminated area.
