4. Installazione (configurazione)

This section outlines the general procedure for replacing front disc brake pads. Always consult your vehicle's specific service manual for detailed instructions and torque specifications.

  1. Preparare il veicolo: Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and block the rear wheels. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts.
  2. Sollevare e fissare: Safely lift the front of the vehicle using a jack and support it securely with jack stands. Remove the front wheels.
  3. Calibro di accesso: Locate the brake caliper. Depending on your vehicle, you may need to remove two caliper guide pins or bolts to swing the caliper open or remove it entirely.
  4. Rimuovere i vecchi cuscinetti: Carefully slide out the old brake pads from the caliper bracket. Note their orientation.
  5. Pulisci e ispeziona: Clean the caliper, caliper bracket, and rotor surface thoroughly. Inspect the brake rotor for excessive wear, scoring, or cracks. Replace if necessary. Inspect caliper guide pins and boots for damage.
  6. Pistone di compressione: Use a brake caliper piston compression tool to slowly and evenly push the caliper piston(s) back into the caliper bore. This creates space for the new, thicker pads.
  7. Installa nuovo hardware: Install any new shims, clips, or anti-rattle springs provided in the hardware kit onto the new brake pads or caliper bracket as per your vehicle's manual.
  8. Installare nuove pastiglie: Carefully slide the new Mopar brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring they are correctly seated and oriented.
  9. Rimontare la pinza: Reinstall the brake caliper over the new pads and rotor. Secure the caliper guide pins or bolts, tightening them to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  10. Spurgare i freni (se necessario): Se i tubi dei freni sono stati aperti o è entrata aria nel sistema, spurgare l'impianto frenante secondo le istruzioni riportate nel manuale di manutenzione del veicolo.
  11. Reinstallare le ruote: Reinstall the wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  12. Veicolo inferiore: Abbassare il veicolo a terra in sicurezza.
  13. Coppia finale: Torque the lug nuts to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications in a star pattern.
  14. Pump Brake Pedal: Before driving, slowly pump the brake pedal several times until a firm pedal feel is achieved. This seats the pads against the rotor and restores hydraulic pressure. Check the brake fluid reservoir level.

5. Bedding-In Procedure (Operating)

Proper bedding-in is crucial for optimal brake performance and longevity. This process transfers a thin, even layer of friction material from the pads to the rotor surface.

  1. Trova un'area sicura e aperta, con traffico minimo.
  2. Perform 10-15 moderate stops from approximately 30-40 mph (50-65 km/h) down to about 5-10 mph (8-16 km/h). Do not come to a complete stop.
  3. Lasciare trascorrere circa 30 secondi tra una fermata e l'altra per consentire ai freni di raffreddarsi leggermente.
  4. After the last stop, drive for several minutes without using the brakes to allow them to cool completely. Avoid hard braking during this cool-down period.
  5. During the bedding-in process, you may notice some smoke or a burning smell. This is normal.

IMPORTANTE:

Avoid heavy braking, panic stops, or prolonged braking (e.g., down a long hill) for the first 200-300 miles (320-480 km) after installation to allow the pads to fully seat.

6. Manutenzione

  • Ispezione regolare: Inspect brake pads, rotors, and fluid levels regularly as part of your vehicle's recommended maintenance schedule.
  • Usura delle pastiglie: Replace brake pads when the friction material wears down to the minimum thickness specified by your vehicle manufacturer, typically around 2-3mm.
  • Liquido freni: Ensure brake fluid is at the proper level and is clean. Consult your vehicle manual for brake fluid replacement intervals.
  • Condizioni del rotore: Check rotors for warping, deep grooves, or cracks. Replace or resurface rotors as needed when replacing pads.
