Fernox TF1 Central Heating Magnetic Filter

Modello: 60003 - Manuale di istruzioni per l'utente

1. Introduzione e descrizione del prodottoview

The Fernox TF1 Central Heating Magnetic Filter is an innovative, high-performance in-line filter designed to remove magnetic and non-magnetic contaminants from central heating systems. Its unique design allows for the capture of circulating debris, preventing damage to system components such as boilers and pumps, and maintaining system efficiency.

Regular use of the TF1 filter helps to extend the life of the heating system, reduce energy consumption, and ensure optimal performance by keeping the system clean and free from sludge and scale build-up.

2. Configurazione e installazione

Proper installation is crucial for the effective operation of the Fernox TF1 filter. It should be installed on the return pipework to the boiler, ideally after the last radiator and before the boiler, to capture debris before it enters the boiler.

2.1 Controlli pre-installazione

  • Ensure the heating system is depressurised and drained before commencing installation.
  • Verify that you have all necessary tools and fittings for plumbing work.
  • Confirm the installation location allows for easy access for future maintenance.

2.2 Passaggi di installazione

  1. Isolare il sistema: Turn off the boiler and isolate the heating system by closing appropriate valves or draining the system.
  2. Cut Pipework: Identify the ideal installation point on the return pipework. Cut a section of the pipe to accommodate the filter. Ensure clean cuts.
  3. Preparare le connessioni: The TF1 filter can be installed in-line using various connections (e.g., compression, push-fit). Prepare the pipe ends according to the chosen connection type.
  4. Installa filtro: Position the TF1 filter with the flow arrow pointing towards the boiler. Connect the filter to the pipework, ensuring all connections are secure and watertight. The filter can be rotated 360 degrees to fit various pipe orientations.
  5. Refill and Vent: Once installed, refill the heating system, ensuring all air is vented from the system and the filter itself. Check for any leaks.
  6. Add Inhibitor: It is highly recommended to add a suitable central heating system inhibitor (e.g., Fernox F1 Protector) to the system after installation to prevent corrosion and scale formation. This can be added via the TF1 filter's dosing point.

3. Principi operativi

The Fernox TF1 filter operates on a dual-action principle, combining hydrocyclonic and magnetic filtration to remove both magnetic and non-magnetic contaminants from the system water.

  • Hydrocyclonic Action: System water enters the filter and is directed into a hydrocyclonic chamber, creating a swirling motion. This action forces heavier particles (both magnetic and non-magnetic) downwards into the collection chamber.
  • Magnetic Filtration: A powerful Neodymium magnet, housed within a sheath, is inserted into the central core of the filter. As water passes through, magnetic particles (such as iron oxide sludge) are attracted and held by the magnet.
  • Collection Chamber: Contaminants are collected in the bottom chamber of the filter, isolated from the main system flow, ready for removal during maintenance.

The filter continuously cleans the system water as it circulates, protecting the boiler and other components from abrasive and corrosive debris.

4. Manutenzione

Regular cleaning of the Fernox TF1 filter is essential to ensure its continued effectiveness and the longevity of your central heating system. It is recommended to clean the filter at least once a year, or more frequently in older or heavily contaminated systems.

4.1 Procedura di pulizia

  1. Isolate the Filter: Close the isolation valves on either side of the TF1 filter. This prevents system water from flowing through the filter during cleaning.
  2. Remove Magnet: Unscrew and remove the magnetic sheath from the top of the filter. You will see the collected magnetic sludge clinging to the magnet.
  3. Drain Contaminants: Place a suitable container (e.g., a bucket) under the drain valve at the bottom of the filter. Open the drain valve to release the collected sludge and water. The hydrocyclonic action helps to flush out non-magnetic debris.
  4. Filtro di lavaggio: Once drained, you can briefly open the isolation valves to allow a small amount of system water to flush through the filter, helping to clear any remaining debris. Close the valves immediately after flushing.
  5. Magnete pulito: Wipe the collected sludge from the magnetic sheath using a cloth or paper towel. Dispose of the sludge responsibly.
  6. Rimontare: Reinsert the clean magnetic sheath into the filter and screw it back securely. Close the drain valve.
  7. Re-open Valves: Slowly open the isolation valves on either side of the filter to allow system water to flow through it again. Check for leaks.

Nota: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves when handling system water and sludge.

5. Risoluzione Dei Problemi

This section addresses common issues that may arise with your Fernox TF1 filter.

ProblemaPossibile causaSoluzione
Reduced system flow/pressureFilter is heavily contaminated with sludge.Perform a full cleaning procedure as described in Section 4.1.
Leaks from filter connectionsLoose connections or damaged seals/O-rings.Isolate the filter, check and tighten connections. Inspect and replace any damaged seals or O-rings.
Filter not collecting much debrisMagnet not properly inserted or system is already very clean.Ensure the magnetic sheath is fully inserted. If the system is new or recently cleaned, less debris may be present.
Difficulty draining sludgeDrain valve partially blocked or system not fully depressurised.Ensure the system is depressurised. Gently clear any blockages from the drain valve.

If problems persist after attempting these solutions, it is recommended to contact a qualified heating engineer or Fernox technical support.
